We are a collaborative and dedicated team seeking a backend engineer to join us in designing and building the future vision of Meetup.

What you’ll get to do in this role:

  • Support in designing, implementing and operating a platform that supports low latency processing and transformation of data at scale.
  • Support in building tooling to allow development and deployment of machine learning models to production.
  • Coordinate with other engineering, product and design teams to create simple & meaningful data-driven experiences for our members and organizers (recommendations, search).
  • Building out new data pipelines and adding to our custom ETL for Machine Learning Engineers and Business Intelligence Analysts.
  • Support the implementation of internal tracking for product teams throughout Meetup in order to collect data for insights and reporting.
  • Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the US

You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Statistics, Informatics, System Engineering or closely related technical field plus one (1) year of experience in the job offered or closely related experience.
  • Must possess expertise/knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered. Expertise/knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Such expertise/knowledge cannot be “quantified” by “time.”

Required expertise/knowledge includes:

Experience with Python, Pandas; Experience with software continuous integration and deployment like Circle CI; Experience processing large amounts of structured and unstructured data, including integrating data from multiple sources and storing data in both relational (Postgres) and NoSQL (Redis) databases; Experience with large scale pipelines, file management systems, workflow management platforms for data engineering pipelines; Experience involved complex algorithms, data mining, and graph-based methodologies for recommendations with Natural Language Processing; Experience with building Business Intelligence Dashboard with credential control, and designing RESTful APIs by Django, Postgres, CI/CD, and AWS ECS; Experience with complex computer vision analysis, extracting skewed and distorted text from images via Open CV, AWS Rekognition; Experience using Big Data frameworks (Spark), databases (RedShift), column-oriented data storage (Parquet), and Scala for complex data assembly and transformation; Knowledge of data cleaning, wrangling, visualization, and reporting; Experience with workflow management platforms like airflow; and Experience with AWS services including EMR, S3, EC2, Glue, SQS, RDS, Cloudwatch, and Lambda.

The pay range for this position is between $91,270 – $130,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, candidate location, and experience.
