Description:
A.P. Moller – Maersk is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead its payroll operations across North America. This role is based in Houston, TX, with additional work-from-home flexibility (2 days a week) as part of our hybrid work policy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processes, driving system improvements, and ensuring full compliance with all relevant payroll laws and agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transformation and ongoing optimization of payroll services, including workflow design, vendor coordination, and system upgrades
  • Manage all aspects of payroll operations for U.S.-based employees across multiple business units
  • Ensure payroll processes meet accuracy, quality, and compliance standards, minimizing errors and preventing fraud
  • Collaborate closely with the Regional Head of Payroll to assess and mitigate payroll-related risks
  • Handle escalated issues, guide the payroll team, and implement sustainable solutions to recurring challenges
  • Manage the administration of off-cycle payments, manual check generation, and electronic bank transfers
  • Coordinate with internal partners to ensure accurate data submission aligned with scheduled payroll processing timelines
  • Integrate payroll data across systems including HCM, time and attendance, and general ledger accounting
  • Define and oversee critical payroll initiatives, ensuring delivery meets quality expectations and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Guarantee timely union benefit remittances as specified in collective bargaining agreements
  • Stay informed on evolving payroll trends, best practices, and technologies, sharing improvement opportunities proactively

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant payroll experience with progressive responsibilities
  • At least 5 years in a leadership role managing complex payroll operations across geographies or time zones
  • Proficiency in ADP Ev5/Ev6 is essential
  • Working knowledge of systems like Workday, ADP Workforce Now, or Paycom is preferred
  • Strong understanding of U.S. payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance protocols
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus

Job Type:
Full Time (Hybrid: 2 days remote per week)

Salary:
$95,000 – $135,000 (Starting salary range based on experience and market factors; final offer determined with selected candidate in accordance with applicable regulations)
