Description:
The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a dedicated Accountant to ensure accurate, timely, and complete financial reporting for assigned parishes. This role requires collaboration with parish staff, finance councils, and regional accounting management to maintain financial integrity and support the broader mission of the Archdiocese. The Accountant will report directly to a Manager or Supervising Senior Accountant at the regional office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify parish bank deposits for accuracy and proper account coding.
- Assess parish accounts payable for correct coding and completeness.
- Reconcile and review tuition contracts and related payments.
- Prepare amortization and accrual schedules as required.
- Record and maintain general ledger journal entries.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts for assigned parishes and maintain supporting documentation monthly.
- Generate monthly financial statements with commentary, adhering to prescribed formats.
- Collaborate with parish staff and Finance Councils to prepare and monitor parish budgets.
- Present financial reports or narratives to pastors and finance councils as needed in coordination with the Accounting Manager.
- Perform additional accounting duties and projects as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Proficiency in approved parish accounting software.
- Minimum of one year of relevant accounting experience.
- Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical accounting procedures and government regulations.
- Effective communication skills for presenting financial information to pastors, parish finance councils, and SAS Management.
- Ability to calculate figures, such as discounts, interest, and percentages accurately.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, and basic internet/email usage.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and structure of the Catholic Church.
- Willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment and pursue continuing education in accounting and computer skills.
