Actalent is partnering with a rapidly expanding civil and site development firm to hire an experienced Sr Civil Construction Estimator. This opportunity is ideal for a highly analytical professional who excels in preparing competitive, detailed estimates for complex projects across residential, commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure sectors. The role offers the opportunity to influence major bids and contribute to high-visibility civil construction initiatives throughout the region.

In this position, you will develop comprehensive cost estimates based on project plans, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Your work will involve performing quantity takeoffs, building accurate pricing models, and ensuring all calculations reflect current market conditions and project scope requirements. You will analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, validate scope coverage, and prepare structured bid proposals for both public and private sector projects.

Key responsibilities include managing and pricing change orders, tracking cost impacts throughout the construction lifecycle, and maintaining detailed bid documentation. You will utilize HCSS software for estimating, bid tracking, and cost management functions. Collaboration is essential, as you will work closely with project managers, engineers, field supervisors, and external partners to align budgets with operational goals. Additionally, you will support preconstruction planning efforts and monitor cost performance to ensure financial efficiency from project start to completion.

To qualify, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of five years of hands-on experience estimating civil or site development projects. Strong proficiency in HCSS is required, along with advanced knowledge of unit pricing, bid preparation processes, change order management, and detailed takeoff procedures. Exceptional analytical thinking, organizational skills, and professional communication abilities are essential.

Preferred experience includes work in heavy civil construction, land development, utilities, roadway projects, or large-scale infrastructure initiatives. Familiarity with preconstruction planning, proposal development, cost modeling, and RFI coordination is considered advantageous.

This is a fully onsite Contract to Hire opportunity based in Poughkeepsie, New York. The pay range for this role is $88.00 to $90.00 per hour.
